A story stitched from love, loss, and the joy of making.
Laurie Jean’s Studio was created to honor my sister, Laurie, who passed away in 2022 from pancreatic cancer. Laurie had an eye for finding beauty in what others might discard. This gift runs in our family—our father restored classic cars, and I’ve always found comfort and creativity in sewing.
Within four years, we lost Laurie, our dad Larry, my nephew Zach, and my brother Kevin. I was overwhelmed with grief and struggled to express the depth of my loss. But one day, I realized the answer had been with me all along: create.
Creating isn’t about perfection—it’s about process, healing, and connection. Through Laurie Jean’s Studio, I breathe new life into donated and thrifted materials, just like my family used to breathe life into the broken and forgotten.
This studio is my love letter to them—and an open door to everyone who believes in second chances, sustainable living, and the soulful joy of making.

Meet the Maker
Sewing has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a child, I learned the craft from my mom, stitching side by side with her and falling in love with the joy of creating something from nothing.
That early passion led me to pursue degrees in fashion design, a Master’s, and a PhD in textile and apparel management. My professional journey has included designing children's wear and managing production in the outdoor gear industry—experiences that deepened my appreciation for artistry and functionality. Today, I share that knowledge as a college instructor, teaching product development and design.
Laurie Jean’s Studio is where my heart, hands, and heritage come together. It’s a place to honor family, uplift sustainable practices, and make creativity accessible to all.
